Hi Cindy,
Well here I am again. On Sept. 17 Teresa and I decided to go out for our last trip of the season. It started out real slow. We caught a couple of 18" macks on our normal lure. Well ... I'm not sure what happen but something hit my line and I lost everything. Now keep in mind I fish with steel line. I thought maybe it just came loose but there weren't any kinks in the line to show were I had the lure tied on. Well .... I couldn't find any of my pliers to straighten out the hooks of my old standbys. So I put a new T-50 in a different color than we usually use. We have never had much luck with anything but a red one. I'm not sure if it was the weather change or what but it was like the lake came alive. We started catching fish one after another. Then all of a sudden I hooked on to this one. It fought me for a while and then my pole went limp. I Figured I had lost it or I had lost my lure again because I was reeling as fast I could and Teresa had increased the speed of the boat trying to see if it was still on. So I started letting line out again to see if my lure was still there when all of a sudden my poll took a nose dive. Then the fight was on. It was probably one of the best fights I have had. It ended up being 40 1/4 inched and 24lbs 10 oz..

Bruce Reid

Teresa Davis of Missoula along with Bruce Reid landed this large lake trout
on the 4th of July while trolling on Flathead Lake. This fish measure 40" and
weighed 25#'s.  Here is Bruce's story.

On July 4th we were out fishing for mack and I had the largest fish of our trip of 27 inches and 16lbs. I told my girl friend that we needed to go and head home and her response was that she wanted to catch one more and it was going to be the largest fish of the trip.  I said alright with a little chuckle " Whatever".

Within a few minutes she hooked onto something that was heavy and dead. She kept saying she was hung up on weeds or someone else's line and I just told her to keep reeling and we will check it out when she got it up. Then all of a sudden it took off and pulled her up out of her seat. It went dead a couple of times and she said it was off. When I saw the line go dead I put the boat in gear because I figured the fish was coming in and I was right.

It took off again. By the time we got it in the boat we could see why it pulled her out of her seat. It was a 25lb and 40 inch Mack. Teresa is only 4'11". Here is a picture of her and the fish.

Rod Rogers of Whitefish sent in this story last spring. This lake trout looks like a good 40 inches.

Hi Cindy,

We nailed this one while sorting out some new electronics on the boat.  Weren't even really fishing.  Got him on a lead-core line.  An honest 39", maybe even a little more.  Weighed in at 19lb 14oz.It was so close to 40", maybe a 1/16th less.  We were on Flathead, over by Woods Bay.  The fish was solo, suspended at 153ft, and a very big return on the sonar.  The down rigger was set too low, but we had two lead-core lines out, so we slowed down a little to let them drop. And it worked.
