would like to thank each and every angler for participating in
2008 Spring Mack Days. You are what makes this event a
success.
Check out the largest lake trout page for info on that category.
Pick your best 12 out of 21 day totals.
Totals will depend on the numbers of
tagged lake trout and bonus payout numbers.
Go to the current leaders
page for the top 60 entries and
leaders in the other categories.
Ice is a requirement for the lake trout
that are going to be donated
to area food pantries. We will not take fish that have not
been
kept on ice!!!
Thank you for
making 2007 Fall Mack Days the best ever!!

We encourage
all boaters/anglers to use caution and be safe while on the
lake.

tips.
Anglers: Please be sure and have the
correct count on your entries for the day.
That will help us have the correct count for you. State
and tribal regulations limit
anglers to 50 lake trout per day under 30".
New--We will take lake trout up to
30" in this event.

Andrew Cornelius of Kalispell reeled in this nice lake
trout
Easter Sunday. Just under 30" it is the largest he has
ever caught.
Incentives for
fishing more than 12 days are:
1. Higher bonus category
2. Catching a tagged fish
3. Better 12 day total for
drawing & top angler award.

Mack Days Anglers:
The 2007 Mack Days Committee
sincerely thanks you for your participation and valuable
contribution to the recent Fall Mack Days event. You helped
make 2007 Fall Mack Days a huge success,
far greater than we expected. This success gives us new
encouragement that anglers can correct the
current lack of balance in the Flathead Lake fishery. With this
event, we reached a target level of harvest
that may be sufficient to reduce the number of lake trout. We
anticipate that the abundant lake trout
population will adjust to this level of harvest by increasing
its rate of reproduction. Careful monitoring
of the lake’s fishery will be required to verify if a population
reduction does occur, and to determine how
the population may adjust to the current harvest. Any progress
we have made will likely be lost if high
harvest levels are not sustained well into the future. Please
refer to the Mack Days website for additional technical
information as we proceed in our efforts to reduce the total
number of lake trout. Managers
throughout the West are responding to overly-abundant lake trout
populations, and many are employing techniques different than
ours. For example, on Yellowstone and Pend O’reille lakes there
has been
extensive gillnetting to control lake trout, while on Flathead
Lake we have focused on the angling public to achieve our
management goals. The very successful fall event was shaped by
many of your suggestions,
and we welcome any additional suggestions you may have to help
us continue to improve these events.
For example, we are now considering a team or boat category for
the spring event to address those anglers
that usually fish as a group. We anticipate holding the spring
event from March 14th to April 27th.
Again, we congratulate
you on your accomplishments in 2007 and look forward to your
participation
in future contests. Please direct your suggestions or comments
to Barry Hansen at 883-2888 ext. 7282,
or Cindy Benson at ext. 7294.

Understand and appreciate the event
rules-good sportsmanship depends on conforming to the
intent of the rules and to not be looking for a loophole. You
may enter only the lake trout
you
have caught.
Fish entered daily are to be harvested on that day. When you take your
lake trout
home they will be clipped. Keep the fish on ice if you are going
to donate them. They are
going to be
processed for the
food pantries. We cannot accept fish that are not kept on
ice. Check out the
sportsmanship
page.
Check out the rules page for a list of
prizes.

Final numbers sometimes are different than
what is first reported. The reason
for the difference is catching mistakes when we finally have the
time to go
over all envelopes and verify numbers. Also we do not mean
to leave any
one off of any list. Each and every angler and the number
of lake trout they caught-if it
is one fish or over 200-they all add up and all count.
We can only list so many names
so we have to limit what is printed. Youth anglers are an
important investment
in our future and are given priority on lists that go out to
papers.
All it takes
is one fish to win!!
